Procedure
A. Stimulating
Activity
The
teacher will have an activity called “Word Groups”. A replica of a cabbage will
be passed around the class accompanied with music. Once the music stops, the
one holding the cabbage will get the rolled paper inside it and answer the
question written. If nothing was written, then the student is safe. The student
who cannot answer will have a corresponding consequence.
The
question is:
Which of the following does not belong to the group?
1. Mouse,
keyboard, processor, monitor, speaker
2. Car,
train, submarine, bus, bicycle
3. Russian,
Africa, Scottish, English, Australian
4. Swede,
turnip, java plum, leck, union

After
the activity, the teacher will give the consequence for those who was not able
to answer correctly.
B. Actual
Activity
The
teacher will start introducing the topic which is about collective nouns. The
definition of the collective nouns will be given and its examples.
Collective nouns
refers to the names of the persons, places, or things taken as a group, as a
unit or as one.
Examples:
team bunch fleet of ships
family crew colony of ants
If
the collective nouns is referred to as one unit, it is taken are singular. If
you refer to the individual members in the collective noun, the noun is taken
as plural.
Examples:
1. The
staff is having a meeting. (singular)
The staff are arguing about an issue.
(plural)
2. The
play’s cast is rehearsing for today’s show. (singular)
The play’s cast are having their costume rehearsal.
(plural)
The teacher will ask a few students to give examples of a
collective noun. While the students are giving examples, the teacher will write
those examples on the board. After, the teacher asks another student to
construct a sentence using the given collective nouns. Then, the teacher will
post on the board more examples of collective nouns and the students will pick
one and use it in a sentence.

C. Follow-up
Activity
The
teacher will group the students into four groups. Each group will line up at
the back part of the classroom. For the first part of the game, the teacher
will give a sentence and the students should race o the board and write the
collective noun found in the sentence. In the second part, the students should
select the appropriate collective noun of the given sentence. The last part
would be the giving of a sentence, wherein the students are tasked to write the
correct verb that will agree with the collective noun.
